Khapra Beetle Measures | Upcoming Changes
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry have announced upcoming changes to Khapra Beetle Measures.
In summary, three key changes to khapra beetle treatments and phytosanitary certification will be introduced on 28 May 2025.
Revised additional declaration on the phytosanitary certificate used to certify compliance with gas-permeable packaging requirements for treatments of high-risk plant products.
Mandatory supervision by the exporting government’s National Plant Protection Organisation (NPPO) of treatment by certain providers. A new additional declaration will be required on the phytosanitary certificate to certify compliance with this requirement.
Removal of the fourth concentration sampling tube requirement for methyl bromide fumigation of sea containers.
The department has written to certifying government authorities and offshore treatment providers where possible. However, it is recommended that you engage with your suppliers and treatment providers to make them aware of the changes. Since the introduction of measures to protect Australia from khapra beetle in 2021 the department has observed ongoing non-compliance particularly with regards to offshore treatments and the use of gas-impermeable packaging. Increased monitoring and assurance will be implemented on this pathway and those that do not take the required steps to ensure effective treatments are being applied may experience disruptions to supply.

FCL vs. LCL: What’s the difference and which is right for your shipment? At Stockwells, we believe in making logistics lingo simple. In this blog, we’re breaking down two essential terms you’ll come across in ocean freight: FCL and LCL.
Navigating the future of logistics As technology continues to reshape the logistics landscape, the industry finds itself at a crossroads. Port automation promises efficiency, yet it also sparks debates about its impact on labour and operations.
Key shipping terms deep dive: CFR vs CIF When it comes to freight forwarding, details are important. Incoterms are no exception. Incoterms are terms of sale recognised across the globe used to define the responsibilities of parties involved with international transactions.
